Product Design & Replication

Using the 3D scanner and CAD, it is possible to replicate parts with extreme accuracy.

This dry sump oil pan for a Toyota 22R motor had seen better days.  The poorly repaired steel pan was leaking through the welds where it had been repaired.  After realizing another repair was useless, the decision was made to recreate the pan from scratch using aluminum.

A 3d scan was done of the original pan, and the engine block with the pan removed.  From there I was able to design a new sheet metal pan from scratch, mimicking the shape and dimensions of the old pan perfectly.  After having the parts cut out on a CNC plasma table, they were positioned and fully welded with two aluminum AN bungs in the original locations.
